Our Responsibility
We believe it is important to make responsible decisions. Especially when it comes to our felt shoes and other products. Even though we are a small, locally owned business we have a duty to make decisions that create a positive impact. Every decision we make has far reaching implications. Not just for the people around us, but also for the planet and on a worldwide scale.
Because we are a family-owned business we have complete control over our entire manufacturing and distribution process. This makes conducting business with other parties our responsibility. We only work together with partners that carry the same values as us and have equally high ethical standards. This is so important to us that we truly wouldn’t know how else to conduct business!
Wool
Let’s start at the beginning. Our products are the direct result of hard work and high quality base materials. This is why we only work with wool. Wool is a highly sustainable product. It is long lasting, recyclable and renewable. These three points are important to the environment. But our responsibility goes deeper. Where would we be without the sheep providing our high quality wool? No where! This is why we go to great lengths to make sure that the sheep that provide the wool for our products are given the best possible care. To do so it is important that all of our wool is traceable. By knowing where the wool we use originates we can make sure that all parties can be made accountable for their actions.
One of the most recent changes that is being made globally when it comes to gaining wool is the rise and fall of Mulesing. Mulesing is when a sheep’s body is changed so that it is able to produce more wool. This controversial practice is currently banned in most countries. We denounce this way of winning wool and make sure that all of our wool is curated from cruelty free farms.
Social Impact
But that’s not all. We truly couldn’t provide you, our customer, with the high quality goods we wish to distribute without the people that make our products. This is why it’s so important to us that we also take societal and human health issues into account. All of our products are made by hand in Nepal. We have first-hand experience with the positive impact we can create by supporting local communities in Nepal.
By providing good working conditions, a salary that is 25% higher than the national average and by employing more women than men in our workshop, we are creating the change we wish to see. Of course we also guarantee that no children work in the facility in which our felt products are made.
B-Corp Certification
By creating a safe and healthy work environment in a part of the world that often lacks these kinds of resources we are giving people a chance at a better life. Doing this on a local level is very important and meaningful to us. But it is also important to us that we are a part of B Corp’s “global movement of people using business as a force for good.”
We are a B Corp certified company and so meet the global non-profit organization’s exacting guidelines for social and environmental performance. We also meet the global guidelines for how our company’s operations and business model impact our workers, community, environment and customers.
We believe that by being the change we wish to see we are taking an active part in committing to a better tomorrow. As our company continues to grow we promise to keep striving to do right by our customers, our employees and our planet.
